What’s the most common challenge your clients run in to? Your unique approach?
The most common problem clients make is identifying what is causing the site issue. It’s normally one of four things, 1) Hosting issue, 2) Dev/Code issue, 3) Magento bug, or 4) Module code /incompatibility issue. One of the hardest things to do is to identify which one of the four is causing the problem. That is why it is so important to work with a team of professionals that work well together. Magento, the client, the solution partner and the hosting partner need to work closely to determine root cause and plan of action. Identifying the problem is more than half the battle and ZeroLag prides itself on working with the team better than any other hosting company. Once you know what needs to fixed, patched, updated the implementation is the easy part.
What’s the one thing you wish people would know before they choose to host with ZeroLag?
That Time to First Byte on a Magento site is deceiving. If your TTFB is multiple seconds switching hosting companies alone is not enough. Although this could be symptomatic of caching being turned off, lack of resources on the server it could also be because the page has a lot of Database calls generating each page. We have seen on multiple occasions clients using modules to create their layered navigation that dynamically creates the NAV on every page. When the client has A LOT of categories with thousands of products in each categories TTFB becomes a big problem. If each page requires hundreds of database calls even if each call takes 3 milliseconds that adds up quickly. Again, this is why it’s so important to work with a team of professionals that understand Magento.
What’s the craziest job you’ve done?
Craziest job I ever did was in college. I got hired to help a friend move a storage unit and when we got there it was filled with film reels. When we looked at the film they all said, “Reservoir Dogs”. It was all the uncut film for Quentin Tarrintino’s first movie about 3 months before it was released.
